Around 10 days ago, Unithmed launched an open invitation on RedNote, looking for an international participant to join our Canadian Healthcare Experience in China project and share his honest thoughts about the healthcare system from a foreign perspective.

We wanted to invite someone to personally go through the healthcare process in China and provide a real perspective from an international visitor.

After receiving applications on RedNote, we selected Cameron, a Canadian content creator who has been living in China for nearly two years.

During his time in China, Cameron has experienced many aspects of local life, including Chinese food, culture, travel, and everyday experiences. He is also a travel blogger on RedNote, sharing his experiences in China with his followers.

However, despite his familiarity with life in China, healthcare was still an area he had never truly experienced.

That is why Unithmed wanted to explore one question:

How does healthcare in China look from the perspective of an international visitor?

Experiencing a Chinese Hospital for the First Time

From the moment we arrived at the hospital to completing the entire health check-up process, the experience took around three and a half hours.

For Cameron, experiencing a Chinese hospital for the first time, the efficiency of the process was one of the biggest surprises.

From registration and medical examinations to communication with doctors, each step followed a clear process and was completed in an organized way.

Of course, there was also a very human moment during the experience.

While waiting for the health check results, Cameron admitted that he felt a little nervous.

This is a feeling that many people can relate to.

No matter where someone receives healthcare, waiting for medical results often brings uncertainty and concern.

A Conversation About Healthcare Differences Between China and Canada

At the end of the experience, Unithmed team member Lin also had a conversation with Cameron about healthcare experiences in Canada.

Through this discussion, we discovered some interesting differences between healthcare habits in China and Canada.

Unlike China, where many people choose to have regular health check-ups every year as a way to monitor their overall health, many people in Canada tend to seek medical examinations when they notice symptoms or feel something is wrong.

Cameron also shared that many healthcare services in Canada are accessed through a family doctor.

In addition, different examination items are often arranged separately, and appointments between different medical services may require longer waiting periods.

This conversation gave us a deeper understanding of how healthcare systems can differ across countries, not only in medical technology, but also in people’s healthcare habits and expectations.

A Real Healthcare Experience in China

Around 4 PM, Cameron completed his first healthcare experience in China.

For him, this was not only a health check-up, but also an opportunity to understand China from a different perspective.
